About Abbotsford
Abbotsford sits on a peninsula about 10 km west of the Sydney CBD in the City of Canada Bay. Its Aboriginal name is Bigi Bigi, Wangal clan country of the Eora Nation.
The suburb takes its name from Abbotsford House, built in 1890 for Sir Arthur Renwick and later home to the Nestlé chocolate factory (1918–1991) before becoming the Abbotsford Cove estate. Trams ran along Great North Road until 1954.
Today it is known for its Great North Road village strip, the rowing and sailing clubs at Abbotsford Point, and Wymston Parade’s foreshore with heritage Port Jackson figs.
Waterfront streets include Wymston Pde, The Terrace, St Albans St, Abbotsford Pde.
